WHO WE ARE

We Are Woodstock!

We are a family of committed parents and players dedicated to growing the sport of lacrosse. We believe lacrosse teaches many values that are valuable to live life:

Honor | Leadership | Teamwork | Hustle | Commitment

You don't have to be the best player (maybe you've never played!). Bring your heart and your hustle and we'll teach the rest. We forge more than just great players. We forge future leaders.

F.A.Q

Q: Who can participate in Wolverines Youth Lacrosse Programs?

A: All children in grades 6-8th who are residents of the Cherokee County are eligible to participate in our programs. All children K-5th are through Cherokee Youth Lacrosse (more about that next).

Q: What is the difference between Wolverine Youth Lacrosse and Cherokee Youth Lacrosse (CYL)?

A: Jr. Wolverines Lacrosse is part of Woodstock High School Lacrosse booster club. It is intended to help prepare players for high school play and is for players in grades 6-8. It is what you call a feeder program.

Through the strategic partnership with the Cherokee County School District, players in grades K-5 are able to represent their school but play through Cherokee Parks & Rec (CYL). Registration, uniforms, logistics and management is through CYL. Coaching, vision and support is still through Jr. Wolverines. This is exactly the same arrangement as CYF and CYB. This is why when you register through CYL you choose CYL-Woodstock.

A special note, CYL does offer lacrosse teams for grades 6-8 for players that don’t play for a feeder program in the county.

Jr Wolverines and CYL work very closely together. Over the years we’ve worked to make sure that the kids have fun and meaningful lacrosse experience as they advance through the grades.

So long story short: Grades K-5? go to CYL, we’ll see you there. Grades 6-8? Come join us at Jr Wolverines!

Q: What is MAYLA?

A: MALYA is the Metro Atlanta Youth Lacrosse Association. It is the parent league that all Jr Wolverine and CYL-Woodstock teams play in. So during the season our team plays both other Cherokee teams and other metro Atlanta teams all under MAYLA.

Q: What equipment is required to participate in Wolverines Youth Lacrosse Programs?

A: Boys: lacrosse stick, helmet, gloves, arm pads, shoulder pads, cleats, mouth guard & protective cup. Girls: lacrosse stick, goggles, cleats and mouth guard.

Q: Where are the games held?

A: The 8 spring games are held around metro Atlanta, usually within 30 minutes of home but expect 1-2 games with a longer drive.

Q: How long are youth lacrosse games?

A: Generally about 70 minutes including stoppages and half time

Q: What day will my son/daughter practice?

A: Practice schedules will be determined early in 2020 There will be a schedules page on our website that will have practice schedule information when it becomes available.

Q: Will lack of playing in the past impact the ability to play at this time?

A: No, new players will be just fine jumping into the sport as many are just beginning at this age.

Q: Does the location of the practices vary?

A: The 8U-12U will practice at JJ Biello Park, 14U will practice at Woodstock High School.

Q: Who are the coaches?

A: Wolverine Youth Lacrosse and CYL relies on volunteer coaches who are generally parents of the players.  Each team will have a designated Head Coach who has primary responsibility for maintaining the team schedule, communicate with families, and manage their team.  Each team will have a varying number of Assistant Coaches – and volunteers are always needed – who assist with practices and game management.  All of our coaches receive at least minimum training from US Lacrosse (the national governing body for the sport).

Q: Why do I need a US Lacrosse number?

A: US Lacrosse Numbers are required for insurance purposes.  US Lacrosse provides Jr Wolverines and CYL (as well as most other nonprofit lacrosse organizations) insurance to run our program, etc.  All players and coaches are required to have a valid US Lacrosse number. It's an annual Membership. Got to www.uslacrosse.org to sign up.

Q: My registration keeps failing because of my US Lacrosse Number!!!

A: US Lacrosse membership must match your registration information to validate. This is a common problem and we have created a page to help with the US Lacrosse Verification.
